A 'handful of environmentalists' determined to stop Jumbo

Re: Jumbo Glacier Resort
As a resident of Invermere, I find it interesting that we now have not only a handful of noisy environmentalists in our town who purport to represent the views of the rest of us, but now also some folks in Golden speaking out on our behalf! There are a number of us who are quietly “pro” Jumbo here in Invermere. For the most part we have taken the high road and stayed out of the public debate, trusting in the “democratic” review process put in place by our “elected” representatives to take note of our voices. However, now that it appears that the project’s opponents are determined to subvert the provincial government’s review process in order to get their way, I believe you will hear a lot more of us speaking up.
A handful of environmentalists would like to stop this project and most economic development in the province but present no alternatives on how the majority of us are to earn a living. Jumbo Glacier Resort is the most thoroughly reviewed and environmentally responsible ski resort proposal in this country and yet it is under attack. If we are not to have resorts and tourism, what is the alternative? What’s more picturesque and environmentally friendly? An alpine village or a strip mine? Or maybe a clear cut? There are only so many jobs for environmental consultants out there, so what are the rest of us to do? Sit home and grow vegetables in our back yards, I guess.
I would like to make it clear that Wildsight and the folks down in Golden DO NOT represent my views on Jumbo Glacier Resort.

Talking about subverting the process. Did not the CORE process over 15 years ago bring in all aspects of our society: preservationists, business, government both municipal and provincial and RDEK and industry and after a very long and protracted process determine that Jumbo for a ski resort was the best use in that industrialized area/
And then three “preservationist groups’ who did not agree with the majority decide to railroad the system.?
They did not like the consensus of the majority of wide spectrum groups, so have chosen to flap and flap and flap their gums to the point of others feeling sorry for them and disgusted for that matter?
Mark McKee has it right when he says, just get the thing over with so we don’t have to listen to the constant bleating of these three groups.
