August 2, Invermere –
Mark your calendars. Sunday, August 2nd is the second annual Columbia Valley Tour of the Arts, featuring Columbia Valley artists in unique locations. This year 50 artists will display, demonstrate and sell their work in five heritage locations. The Columbia Valley Arts Council is pleased to present artists who work in a variety of media, including wood, paints, glass, clay, fabric and metal.
As well as showcasing very talented artists, the Tour of the Arts allows patrons to discover hidden treasures in the Columbia Valley. Lovely heritage properties set in spectacular scenery welcome Tour visitors including a restored 1895 barn, a lodge built as a hotel for miners in 1899, a century old church, 10 buildings at the Windermere Valley Museum, and the 95 year old Pynelogs Gallery.
The first Tour proved immensely popular, selling out all 500 Passports required for admission to the Tour Sites. Plan to buy your Passports early. Invite your friends and family to visit the Valley for the August long weekend to enjoy the Tour of the Arts. Passports go on sale Saturday, June 27 at Pynelogs, Village Arts, Essentials, One Hour Photo and Details in Invermere; Smoking Water Cafe in Fairmont; N’Deco in Radium. All proceeds from the Tour support the programs of CV Arts.
Tour of the Arts passports include the map to the Sites, photos and bios of all participating artists. Passports are $20.00 ($10 for students, children 12 and younger free). Travel at your leisure between 10 am and 4 pm. Have your Passport stamped at each Site. At the end of the afternoon, Tour patrons and artists are invited to a reception at Pynelogs from 4:30 to 7 pm. Passport holders who collect all five Tour stamps are eligible for a special draw prize (Tin Horn Creek Winery and Golf Package in the Okanogan).
A committee of volunteers has worked on the Tour for months to create a major artistic highlight for local residents as well as a destination for visitors. We urge you to join the team and volunteer for this exciting event. Call CVArts at 250-342-4423. Volunteers are needed for tasks such as parking directors, admission desks, and reception personnel.
