Radium summer youth day camp

July 8 – Aug 27, Radium Hot Springs –

Day camp.

The summer youth day camp will run for 8 weeks beginning July 7th, 2009, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm. There will be, at minimum, an additional four days of special activities (i.e. Voyageur canoe trip) outside of the regular schedule. The camp will be limited to children ages 7 – 15 inclusive.

The following list of activities is representative of the types offered at the camp:

• Team sports: baseball, basketball, soccer, softball…
• Individual sports: golf, gymnastics, biking…
• Watersports: canoeing, swimming
• Adventure: ropes and climbing, hiking, orienteering, geocaching, camp skills, outdoor cooking…
• Creative arts: basketry, drawing, jewelry, crafts, painting, sculpture…
• Games
• Eocosystem oriented: Parks Canada youth program, animal tracking and identification, stream ecology…

Leader-participant ratio and staffing

The program will be staffed by one senior coordinator, responsible for overall management of the program and staff, and two leaders. The coordinator be at least 25 year old and the leaders 17 years of age or more. The staff participant ratio will not exceed one to ten.

Staff qualifications

The coordinator and leaders will have current first aid certification including CPR. All activities involving higher levels of risk (i.e. canoeing, climbing et cetera) will be supervised by individuals with the appropriate qualifications and certifications. All high risk activities proposed will be approved by the village CAO.

Fees

Special event days will have per person fees established by the estimated budget for that event and determined by the coordinator working with the CAO and CFO.
