Learn to 'belly dance' like this at upcoming classes in Invermere.
Sep 2 – Oct 23, Invermere –
The “belly dance”, as we in the west know it, has ancient roots in the Middle East, where it began as dances celebrating special occasions such as births, family and social occasions. It was an important part of the cultures of such countries as Egypt, Turkey, North Africa, Rome, Spain and India — each region having its own special version of the art. The belly dance is a dance of great skill, grace and beauty, and women young and old would gather together to entertain and honor each other.
In the late 1800’s, the dance was brought to North America and today it has enthusiasts throughout the world. It is an enjoyable way to get an excellent workout and meet other women.
Fall belly dance classes are beginning soon at the Valley Fitness Centre. Beginners’ classes will be Wednesdays from 12-1pm and 6-7pm. Starting September 2nd and running to October 21st, the eight classes are $80.
Intermediate classes will be Fridays from 7 – 8:30 pm and run from September 4th to October 23rd. The cost is $120.
