Would you like to know what really happens when someone is caught in an avalanche or how avalanches are predicted? Maybe you would like to venture out yourself and need more safety information or you are experienced but want to know about rescues.
Brad White, mountain safety specialist with Parks Canada, will speak about how to travel safely in winter, the rescue and avalanche programs in the mountain national parks at DTSS Theatre Thursday February 11, at 7:30 pm, $7 at the door. Brad’s talk AVALANCHE! is the first in this year’s Wild Voices Speakers Series Nature and Science, brought to you by the Friends of Kootenay National Park and Parks Canada.

Brad will highlight some major incidents and how Parks Canada’s responds to rescues, are involved in mountain travel training, avalanche forecasting and avalanche control. In addition to 27 years of experience with Parks Canada, Brad is also a mountain guide, an examiner for the Association of Mountain Guides and a senior avalanche instructor with the Canadian Avalanche Association. Brad has lots of stories to tell!
Come out to hear about the science behind these naturally occurring avalanche events and how you can travel safely in the mountains in winter!
