Throne speech focuses on British Columbia’s future.
Office of the Premier.
The second session of the 39th Parliament of British Columbia was launched today with a speech from the throne that emphasized the steps government will take to propel British Columbia’s Olympic momentum to create jobs, improve the environment and support families with children.
“In the year ahead we will build on our Olympic momentum with action that will reward the generations that follow,” said Premier Gordon Campbell. “We must ask how we can best lead change for our grandchildren’s advantage. New support for families with children is at the centre of our economic and social agenda. We will initiate new supports for families with children that will increase productivity, enhance competitiveness and give parents new choices. Government will take steps to expand opportunities for three- and four-year-old play schools and renew and revitalize education. New measures will encourage healthy lifestyles and secure, affordable health care.”
“A new budget will set the foundation for the province we want in 2030, with a far-seeing agenda that advances this government’s Five Great Goals,” said Premier Campbell. “Our government’s economic mission is clear: We must foster job creation with faster approvals, lower costs, open trade and labour mobility. Productivity and competitiveness are the keys to growing people’s paycheques and re-asserting our role as Canada’s job-creation leader.”
As balancing the budget is both a financial and social imperative, government will look for new ways to meet the needs of citizens within the substantial spending increases already provided to critical government services including health and education. The throne speech highlights a number of initiatives to strengthen B.C.’s economy and provide more support for British Columbia families:

The Western provinces, need to separate from the East. There has been some chatter about Alberta, doing just that. Western citizens are resenting, the East dictating to the West. People from the West, are very tired, of, our tax dollars being funneled to the East. We need to be able to rid our provinces of, unsavory premiers. We need to be able to protect our provinces from being sold out and, resources being privatized, and out and out, thieved. Premiers, don’t seem to understand, our resources, belong to the citizens, not to them. Premiers, must be stopped from stealing money to give themselves, raises such as 53%. A certain Premier said he did his part, he, froze his ministers, cost of living adjustments for two years. The, peoples adjustment was, the HST, and no jobs, losing their homes, losing their vehicles, savings are gone, E.I. has run out. There is a, worrying number of seniors becoming homeless. People on Social Assistance, can afford the HST? Low income families, can’t make it now. All of these people will become homeless, because of, the HST. The taxes are being lowered for big business, we all know who will make up the difference. Lying and deceit is a steady diet for, the BC residents. Campbell and Hansen, can go to the East, and, join Harper and Iggy, and may we never have to look at their faces, ever again.
Really? Julie, can you back ANY of this up or did you just need to get something off your chest? I hope you feel better….

I’m a senior and I’m living it. If you can’t see the devastation for the citizens of this province, open your eyes. A single mother of two, living on $8.00 an hour, is not going to survive the HST. Campbell and Hansen saying, there will be a ” quarterly” partial reimbursement for low income people, shows just how out of touch they are, and you also. These people will run out of money in two weeks and homeless within a month. There were just 300, more mill workers laid off two weeks ago, 800 more teachers to be laid off. That might be peachy for you, it seems to be, you are rolling in money. Good grief!!! There has to be something better than what we have now. If, separating from the East will work, I am all for it.
Julie, you seem to have a very major disconnect between your first and second posting on this blog bit.
In the Columbia Valley, there is so little minimum wage jobs, it is amazing. Cleaners in homes and tourist locations don’t get $ 8.00 / hr. Wendy’s or A&W don’t get $8/hr, grass cutters in the valley don’t either.
I really don’t see how, leaving an organization such as Canada which subsidized British Columbia when the NDP ran the province into the ground a number of years ago, would help any one, It would hurt many, many folks just as the NDP did with their destructive policies.
Remember when all our kids where leaving the valley due to zero jobs ? Remember when most people were on welfare in this valley? The Canadian governement came into our province and left billions to help this province and the folks that had not left by that time.
Sorry, but you are very very off base with your rant. We would simply implode as a society if your model were to take affect
