The Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance (CKCA), which represents, manages and administers arts, culture and heritage funding programs on behalf of the Columbia Basin Trust, is seeking new Steering Committee members from the arts, cultural and heritage community in the Columbia Basin. The Alliance represents broader areas of concern in visual art, music, theatre, dance, film/video and literary arts, plus culture and heritage, than do local Arts and Heritage Councils in individual communities and thus want a suitably broad representation on the committee.
The committee consists of 14 members:
- 6 from the West Kootenay, which covers Arrow Lakes (Nakusp Area), Trail & District, Castlegar, Rossland, Salmo (including Ymir), Slocan Lake (Silverton/New Denver), Slocan Valley (Winlaw/Crescent Valley)
- 5 from the East Kootenay, covering Creston, Cranbrook and District, Golden, Kimberley, Sparwood and District
- One from the North Kootenay, which covers the Valemount area
- Two from the Heritage sector
Members are elected for two-year terms. They must have a strong background in arts, culture or heritage and should be experienced in working on boards/committees, understanding the needs of the sector in order to develop funding programs and policies as well as evaluating proposals.
All members must:
- attend at least two meetings every year in various locations in the Columbia Basin
- be nominated by their local community arts council or by the Heritage Federation of South East British Columbia
Only one nomination may be put forward by each arts council. Regional elections will be held early in April. The Historical Federation of South East British Columbia (HFSEBC) may, at its AGM, elect one nominee to the Steering Committee.
For more information on the nomination process, please contact your local arts council or call the CKCA at 1-877-505-7355. For more information on the CKCA please visit www.basinculture.com. Deadline for arts council nominations is 5:00 pm, Friday, March 26, 2010.
