The One Million Pillowcase Challenge

All Valley quilters and sewers are invited to take the One Million Pillowcase Challenge with Purcell Mountain Quilters. The idea of the challenge is that a beautiful, handmade pillowcase can make a difference to someone in our community. Whether for comforting a cancer patient, giving hope to a foster child, encouraging a trauma victim or brightening up the room of a resident in a nursing home – there are a million ideas to inspire you to sew, sew, sew.

The challenge is for the whole of 2010 so fire up your imagination and set your creativity loose. Make as many pillowcases as you can. Four new free pillowcase patterns will be available at the store every 3 months so there won’t be any lack of resources. Bring your finished pillowcases to Purcell Mountain Quilting, the official drop-off centre, and each one will find a home via a local agency or organization.

To encourage you to have fun while you sew, we will be having a Pillowcase Sew-a-Thon once a month for the remainder of the year. The first one will be on Thursday, March 18th from either 11am-3pm or 6-9pm. Kits will be available for $12.99. If you have some fun prints that you would be willing to share with other sewers, bring them along with you.

Our April Pillowcase Sew-a-Thon will be on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 11am-3pm and 6-9pm so mark the date on your calendar as well.

At the end of the year, we will log the number of donations into the count of the One Million Pillowcase Organization, which is believes they will reach the magic “million” number by December 31st.

We ask that you pre-wash all fabrics prior to sewing.

A prize of a $50 gift certificate from Purcell Mountain Quilting will go to the sewer who donates the most number of finished pillowcases from now to the end of the year.
