Rules for off-road vehicle registration and licensing, helmet use, youth safety and environmental measures will be implemented over the next two years under a new off-road vehicle (ORV) management framework, announced Tourism, Culture and the Arts Minister Kevin Krueger today. [Read more]

Off-road use can lead to the destruction of habitat and introduction of invasive species
Off-road travel, whether by snowmobile, ATV, dirt bike, 4 x 4, or dune buggy, is a popular and exhilarating pastime for many people. It’s a quick way to get to remote, scenic places that are otherwise not easily accessible. However, these off-road vehicles often damage the very environment that many go off road to see. Off-road use can lead to the destruction of habitat for birds that nest in the grasslands like the long billed curlew and delicate grasslands flowers like the chocolate lily.
Ruts formed by the tires, even mountain bike tires, can change the water flow of both dry and wet areas. In wet areas, a critical and diverse habitat, especially in a semi-arid climate like outs in the southern interior, off-road use can change the flow and water level of wetlands, silt the water and kill vegetation.
