Invermere’s Eddie Mountain Arena is closing March 10th for a long-awaited and eagerly anticipated renovation. It has been made possible by both a grant of $215,000 from the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RINC) Program, a part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan and funding of $375,000 through the Towns For Tomorrow program. Regional district makes donation to Fernie museum project.
The Regional District of East Kootenay announced at its December 4, 2009 meeting that it was donating $2500 from the Electoral Area A discretionary grants in aid (DGIA) account to the Fernie and District Historical Society’s museum project.
In February 2009, the historical society signed a 25-year lease with the City of Fernie for the old BC Hydro Building on Victoria Avenue. Thus began in earnest a renovation and restoration project that has virtually become a cooperative adventure, bringing together dozens of community-minded businesses and individuals who are donating their time, their skills, their money and their incredible enthusiasm to make this distinctive heritage treasure a true centerpiece in the downtown area.
