$27-million contract awarded for next Kicking Horse work.
Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
A $27.2-million contract has been awarded to Emil Anderson Construction Ltd. of Hope, B.C. to design and build the Golden Hill to West Portal section of the Trans-Canada Highway – Kicking Horse Canyon project, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Shirley Bond announced today.
“The Trans-Canada Highway is a vital link for transporting commercial goods and for tourism,” said Bond. “The Kicking Horse Canyon project is increasing safety for all users by replacing old, winding two-lane highway with four lanes of divided highway that’s designed to a modern standard.” [Read more]
Trans Canada closed west of Field (Nov 28)

Update Nov 29 – Highway is now open again.
A motor vehicle collision just west of the community of Field in Yoho National Park has caused the closure of the Trans Canada Highway.
No estimated time or confidence of reopening is currently available.
Golden EMS, Field Fire, Golden RCMP, Standish and Parks Canada have responded. [Read more]

More improvements underway for Kicking Horse Canyon.
Paving preparation work is now underway for a section of the Trans-Canada Highway outside Golden, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Shirley Bond announced today.
“These improvements will help to improve safety for motorists along this stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway,” said Bond. “It’s another segment of the larger Kicking Horse Canyon project (KHCP), which is being delivered ahead of schedule and is creating hundreds of local jobs.” [Read more]

A 9-km stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway immediately east of Lake Louise has been twinned and is now open for traffic. Landscaping and clean-up of this section will be finished this fall. The final top lift of pavement should be completed by 2011.
Construction is well underway on a 14-km section of highway west of Castle Junction, with the majority of work expected to be completed by 2010. It is anticipated that by 2011, the entire highway between Banff and Lake Louise will be four lanes. [Read more]

Emergency rock scaling on the Field Hill on the Trans Canada Highway in Yoho National Park.
What’s Happening?
Rock Scaling on the Field Hill on the TCH just East of the Spiral Tunnels View Point is beginning today, July 16, 2009. The work is expected to last for at least 2 weeks and full or partial closures and delays of up to 20 minutes are anticipated. Updated information will be sent out as it becomes available.
Why is this being done?
Rock along the Field Hill has become unstable and is being removed immediately to ensure public safety. [Read more]
